Practicing gratitude goes a long way in creating and maintaining a positive mindset and approach to life. And while this past year has been a challenge in different ways, there is much to be grateful for.
And here are a few suggestions on how to approach your next workout with gratitude:
1. Think “get to” rather than “have to.”
As you’re getting in the car to drive to the studio or walking through the door, remind yourself that the class you’re about to take is something you get to do. So many times, we let ourselves see working out as something we have to do. Consistency leads to many benefits. Maintaining a “get to” mindset over “have to” will help you bring more gratitude to your workouts.
2. Focus on what you enjoy.
Another way to approach your next workout with gratitude is to focus on what you enjoy about that time. Rather than running through a list of all the movements you want to avoid, shift your attention to workout benefits as you’re experiencing them. These benefits include stress relief, mindfulness, focused breathing, appreciation of hard work, or progress toward your goals.
3. Be grateful for the community.
When you show up to work out, be grateful for the community you’re an essential part of. This community is a safe place to receive guidance for your goals while feeling empowered to live a happy, healthy life.
4. Appreciate your family’s support.
It’s not always easy to get time away from home for a workout. But the chance to work out and do something for yourself that’s important to you is a sign of support and something to be grateful for.
5. Be thankful for the opportunity to learn.
Whether you’re new to working out or have years of experience, there are always new things to learn and improve on. Be grateful for these opportunities to learn and grow as you work toward getting the results you seek.
